Queer Art Project (QAP) is a dynamic arts program designed to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ individuals to explore their creativity and connect with a vibrant community of artists. QAP provides a range of workshops, resources, and exhibition opportunities that celebrate queer identity and amplify LGBTQ+ voices within the arts.

.

Our Mission

Queer Art Project was started in 2024 by Queer NW with the mission to foster queer artistic expression and build community. We believe that art has the power to heal, transform, and connect us. We are committed to providing a platform for LGBTQ+ artists to share their voices and create meaningful art.

Our Commitment

QAP's commitment to the LGBTQ+ arts community extends beyond our workshops and programs. We host artist talks, panel discussions, and community events that promote dialogue and engagement around queer art and culture. We also offer resources and mentorship opportunities to support artists in their creative journeys.

A World of Imagination

Find your new passion and meet new friends at the workshops. These events are for LGBTQ+ and allies, meaning friends and family and those that support the community. Rules are below and are for everyone to follow. We will try to make classes free as much as possible. If we cannot make the entire class free, we will have Honor Tickets available for those that need the financial assistance.

Queer Workshop Code of Conduct for All!

  1. Respect for All: Treat everyone with kindness, respect, and dignity, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, expression, race, ethnicity, religion, age, ability, or background. Use inclusive language and avoid assumptions.

  2. Confidentiality: Honor the privacy of fellow participants. What’s shared in the workshop stays in the workshop, unless given explicit permission to share.

  3. Zero Tolerance for Harassment: Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. This includes offensive comments, jokes, unwanted advances, discriminatory behavior, or any actions that make others feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

  4. Inclusive Language: Use gender-inclusive language (“they/them” pronouns when unsure) and be mindful of the diverse identities within the LGBTQ+ community. Ask for pronouns if unsure, and avoid using terms that are outdated or offensive.

  5. Active Listening: Listen attentively to others’ perspectives and experiences. Be open to learning and avoid interrupting or dismissing others’ ideas.

  6. Consent: Always ask for consent before touching someone else’s artwork or materials. Respect personal boundaries and space.

  7. Sharing the Space: Be mindful of sharing resources, materials, and space with other participants. Clean up after yourself and be considerate of others’ needs.

  8. Constructive Feedback: Offer feedback in a way that is supportive and encouraging. Focus on strengths and areas for growth, and avoid personal attacks or negativity.

  9. Self-Care: Prioritize your own well-being. Take breaks if needed and step away if you feel overwhelmed or triggered.

  10. Support System: If you experience or witness any form of harassment or discrimination, please inform the workshop facilitator or another trusted person.

Additional Considerations:

  • Pronoun Introductions: Start each session with introductions that include names and pronouns (if participants are comfortable sharing).
  • Trigger Warnings: If a topic or discussion might be sensitive or triggering for some, provide a warning beforehand to allow participants to prepare or step away if needed.
  • Accessibility: Ensure the workshop space is physically accessible and consider accommodations for individuals with disabilities (e.g., closed captioning, large print materials).
